Portfolio Companies

MenRx Surgical LLC

MenRx Surgical is a portfolio company of Gyrx LLC. The company developed an innovative new male contraceptive medical device using vas-occlusive technology.

The device—Pro-Vas™—will compete in the global male contraceptive market, which currently includes only condoms and the vasectomy surgical procedure. While females have typically born the burden of contraception, and with condoms as the leading form of male birth control, there are still 4 million vasectomies performed globally each year. This makes vasectomy the second largest form of male birth control in the world.

Pro-Vas is scheduled for market release in early 2009.

Pro-Vas: The Less Invasive Alternative to Traditional Vasectomy™

Pro-Vas—the specifically developed implantable clip that occludes the vas deferens—and its disposable applicator:

  • Increase male birth control accountability
  • Decrease complications from conventional vasectomy procedures
  • Increase the number of male birth control alternatives
  • Reduce procedural pain

Pro-Vas is a device designed to provide permanent contraception for men by attaching a unique titanium spring clip that effectively occludes each vas deferens, with no vas being cut away. The pre-loaded disposable applicator uses jaw technology allowing easy clip application... Pro-Vas is the male vas-occlusive option.

Research indicates that many men are looking to take more responsibility for family planning activities, and they are strong advocates for new choices in male contraception. The Pro-Vas vas-occlusive method provides:

  • A 50% faster procedure
  • Reduced recovery time
  • Greater satisfaction
  • A less-invasive procedure

The Pro-Vas clip and applicator will be available worldwide in early 2009.

OrthoDynamix LLC

OrthoDynamix LLC (OD) was established in 2007 to develop disposable steerable surgical instrumentation for arthroscopy. OD is a collaboration of the conveyed attributes of two medical device companies—Gyrx LLC and Medicept, Inc. The combination will deliver multiple product offerings developed on one technology platform. Initial products include steerable 5mm grasper, punch and 3mm RF hand instruments.

The OD instrumentation will bring enabling technology to the arthroscopy market (35,000 annual US hip arthroscopies and 1.5 million knee and shoulder arthroscopies). Hip arthroscopy has not flourished due to the lack of effective instrumentation and corresponding surgeon training. OD's arthroscopic instrumentation platform, ArthroSteer™, has been developed to compete in the $8 billion worldwide joint implant market. The minimally invasive product line is designed to address joint pain issues from sports injuries, genetic damage and pre-arthritis.

Surgical Technologix LLC

Surgical Technologix LLC is mining its' steerable instrument licensed technology for general surgery, ENT, cardiovascular and spine. Its' first product introduction is SurgiSteer, a 5MM steerable scissor, dissector, grasper and needle driver.

SurgiSteer elevates the concept of MIS to a new level. As Single Port Surgery becomes more valuable, one incision through the umbilicus, it is apparent that these procedures become the next logical advance offering the potential of more rapid recovery and fewer post surgical complications with fewer incisions. SurgiSteer delivers the maneuverability, control and access that surgeons enjoy with conventional MIS surgery.

Intrapartum LLC

Developed technology which enables an individual to determine with specificity the dilation of a female's cervix during labor by using a disposable glove with embedded sensors which are attached to an external read-out.

Sorbx LLC

Sorbx LLC created absorbable implant technology—the AbsorbaTack™—for hernia mesh fixation. The product delivered a 5 mm helical tack via a disposable multi-fire applier. Gyrx was instrumental in the product's development and pre-market sale to TYCO Healthcare in 2007.

Endox LLC

Endox LLC, a subsidiary of Gyrx, launched Visu-Loc™ in 2004. Visu-Loc, a laparoscopic general surgery device—a 5mm endoscopic ligation clip applier—improves patient outcomes during minimally invasive procedures, such as gallbladder surgery. Visu-Loc's clip and applier assets, including a development agreement, were sold for $11.5 million to Microline PENTAX in 2006.
